Birthday Tape vibe: Hopeful, melancholy road trip

I’ve never been much of a birthday person for my own “special day.” This year, I cringed at the thought of turning a year older until I gave birth to The Birthday Tapes.

Music has always been my love language. It is my therapy and the medicine for my soul. I woke up a couple of days ago, anxious, panicked and in complete fear. It’s been a series of unfortunate events this year. I knew I couldn’t handle any more bad news. I turned to music to help me work through my emotions. The Birthday Tapes is my way of self-medicating my soul with music. It’s the soundtrack to my life.

With the release of the first ever Birthday tape, I picked through songs to select just the right ones to express the ups and downs over the last year. My friend, Will, says this Birthday Tape is reminiscent of a melancholy road trip. I would like to think it is more of a hopeful, yet melancholy road trip. A Little Bit of Everything talks about the ups and downs of life, but it emphasizes making the most of even the smallest of details so we can breathe in as much life as possible.

Melancholy or not, White Flag is the ultimate turning point. Placed at the end of the song list, it symbolizes getting back up for the fight. “Burn the white flag.” It’s been a real beast of a last year. In volume 36, the story will change for the better.

Give The Birthday Tapes: Nov 22, 2019 a listen.
